The Art of Rest: Embracing Deep Rejuvenation

I recently came across a photograph by Henri Cartier Bresson from the 1930’s. As soon as I saw the female portrait I thought it was so beautiful. She looked as though she was in a deep peaceful rest.

Perhaps, this resonated with me because where I live winter has just set in. Winter is nature’s gift to us for rest. Yet in today’s society, it seems we never give ourselves even a moment’s rest. Even if we are resting we are doing something. We have been trained to think we have to accomplish a lot of things and that we need to be super productive to feel like we are contributing to the world.

It is important to allow ourselves to fully rest, to go into a deep rest, and to give our bodies and minds time to rejuvenate. To not fill our days with a never-ending to-do list, and running around accomplishing tasks that maybe do not need to be accomplished.

Resting IS something being accomplished in your life.

I created this painting as a reminder to rest. Even when the winter season has passed it’s important to take moments of rest for your well-being.

So, take a moment after you read this, take a breath, and relax for a bit.
