I felt called to painting this sweet little child when I found this photograph.
Do you remember as a child seeing something and being so amazed? That feeling that comes over you of pure astonishment and wonder. There were so many moments like that for me as a child, but as I aged I found the wonder faded away a bit to the background. I still had moments, perhaps more than most other adults, of seeing things in nature, studying science in college and just being amazed at how cells just did things because they knew their job.
I believe as adults we lose that sense of wonder and amazement. Everything in a way gets taken for granted because we have goals to accomplish, responsibilities. But just think how wonderful life would be if you just slowed down to contemplate life’s beauties, life’s miracles, all the things in nature that happen but we still do not understand them.
There’s this feeling of love and gratefulness that arises in my chest when I experience or contemplate things like this. If you look with the right perspective everything around us can be looked at like this. That is my desire in life to have many moments to be filled with the same wonder this child in this painting has.
