Bringing My Past to My Art

I learned to sew as a child and sewing has remained in my life ever since. My mother was a seamstress. I remember loving to dip my fingers and sort through her box of buttons. I used her fabric scraps to create barbies clothes. Many of my early businesses were based on my sewing.

From sewing Kimonos and dresses for babies to

Upcycling Coffee bags to pouches

to making a line of children’s purses

to Having my paintings printed on Organic cotton and creating pouches and purses.

Now I have begun to paint buy my love of working with textiles has never left me. I espcially love textile art. Last year I saw this exhibit at the Bruce Museum and fell in love with it. It truly is so beautiful in person.

So, now I have decided to try to incorporate my love of textile into my art. When I first began painting I created this piece for my mother who was my inspiration for it.

This past month I have begun experimeniting. I’m still not certain how I will incorporate it so I’ll dedicate the next few months into exploring all my ideas of how and see which fits best for me.

This is a piece with embroidery, watercolor, and acrylic on paper

and here is a piece acrylic on loose canvas with embroidery.

The thing I always remind myself is that it’s nourishing to continue to experiment in life and not everything has to come out perfect. Each thing teaches you something to be able to move forwad.

Thanks for Reading & Happy Creating!
