This year where I live spring has been extremely rainy. There have been a few unseasonably warm days that have hinted to the season to come. I suppose those days have influenced me a bit and I found that many of the compositions I plan to paint or have painted are a nod to this beautiful season.
I usually love spring and it does inspire me, but this spring has been much less inspiring with dark clouds looming overhead almost everyday. We just had ten days straight of rain. I’m simply not use to it.
Through all the rain, gloom, and darkness this month I have been able to be pretty consistent with painting everyday or every other day. My secret, miniature paintings. I’ve loved painting these miniature paintings.

What I love about them is their size allows me to finish in under an hour. When my life is filled with homeschooling my four children, cooking, cleaning, and making time to care for myself and my health then a painting I can finish in under an hour is fantastic.
This little canvas allows me the freedom to experiment with composition, subject matter, and color in such an orderly fashion that I feel like I am accomplishing learning and this helps me stay motivated.
For this coming months I’m going to be focusing on experimenting with new color palettes. I’m drawing inspiration from some of my favorite master painters. We will see where the color takes me.
